One of the primary challenges faced by those who desire to reach teenagers and young adults for the Lord is a subtle enemy called
"apathy," which has infected the Church and crippled our ability to reach this generation for the Lord.
American church-going students have seen it all! They have experienced the multimedia extravaganzas, “moshed”
to the incredible music, and heard every message imaginable on how to have a better life by applying God’s
principles. There is nothing wrong with any of those things in and of themselves; they can serve as great tools
when utilized correctly. However, God has a higher calling in mind for our students than simply their
entertainment. We believe that many students, if presented with the opportunity to really make a difference in
the Kingdom of God, would jump at the chance to live out their faith in an authentic way!
The heart of “Weekend Encounter” is to allow students an opportunity to focus on knowing God’s heart for them
and for those around them. This weekend program is a very flexible one that can take on a
variety of different looks based on the specific needs and desires of each group. The basic structure includes:
- Friday night “kick off” focusing on Jesus’ identity as a Bridegroom God and His ravished heart for His Bride, the Church
- Saturday morning session focused on God’s heart for the poor and forgotten and His desire for His Bride to partner with Him in reaching out to the world around us
- local "mission trip" focused on reaching out to the poor in the community - this project is at the heart of the weekend!
- Saturday night "wrap up" of the weekend, allowing students to share what God has shown them and urging them to make the pursuit of Jesus the priority of their lives
